I have an atomic 4 out of my boat and partially torn down but I don't know if it is worth continuing. I am following the tear down procedure as outlined in the Moyer Manual and am now at the step of removing the reversing gear. The problem is that the castings all have very bad corrosion and the lower end is frozen. At a minimum I will need to replace the oil pan and the flywheel casting, but I am afraid the block casting may also have to be replaced. Any thoughts from those A4 veterans out there would be much appreciated, including ideas for breaking the bottom loose or at least getting the pistons out? .

When the lower end of an Atomic 4 is seized, it is usually necessary to remove the crankshaft and carefully drive out the pistons one by one. If there is a lot of rust and corrosion present in each cylinder bore, this is probably a job best handled by a professional machine shop.

As daunting as this condition must seem, it is not a signal that the engine cannot be restored to useful service.

If you prefer to have our shop do the job, please contact Ken our sales rep at 610-421-4436.

Well the good news and the bad news!! The good news is that I have the engine completely disassembled but the bad news is that the flange on both the block and the oil pan on the cooling jacket side where completely rusted out and cracked off when seperating the block from the pan. Any ideas, where I can get a used block? Most of the internal parts with the exception of the valves look pretty good.:) :(
