Getting ready to install another A4 in my Columbia and would like to get an idea of the year of the engine. The serial number is 178563. The Canadian A4 site used to have a list according to the year but the link comes up empty now. Believe the guy was Robert Hess. Guess he went out of business. If anyone can help, thanks !

Ron,

Wow..a lot of A4 sites have disappeared. Many of my links go to the wrong place now. This worked: http://www.geocities.com/atomfour/

I can recall Don Moyer commenting in the past that the serial# isn't necessarily an accurate indicator of age since many, many blocks were cast and the stored until the complete engine was assembled.

Where did you get your A4? Having a complete history of an engine can be useful, but a good inspection tells you a lot, too.

Ron,

Your engine would be from the early 1970's.

;) Don,
Thanks so much for the reply, I was just curious as to it's vintage. And also, thank you for providing a venue that so many of us enjoy and where we learn so much from you and from each other.
