View Full Version : What happens when the drive belt breaks

I noticed that the drive belt on my late model A-4 is pretty inconvenient to get at. If the belt were to break, will the water pump still turn? In other words, is the water pump driven by an internal mechanism? It looks like for sure the alternator would stop turning, but that does not seem like a show stopper.

The water pump does indeed connect to the gear driven assembly of the accessory drive and does not rely on the alternator belt.
