When I puchased my C&C30 (1981) from the estate of the former and original owner some 5 years ago, I found among his notes some references to the fuel. It seems he added lead to the tank and also some Marvel Mystery Oil. Is this desirable and a practice that I should continue? I did it for a while but not always. In any given year (except one) I rarely use more than a tank full of fuel.

I have changed the oil and plugs every year but not much else beyond that. I have noticed more recently that the engine seems to be missing and would appreciate any opinions as to what I should now be doing in the way of maintenance?

Hi, Leo:

Do you have a fuel filter/ water separator and polishing filter installed? That would be a big step forward, considering that you go through fuel slowly (as do most A4 owners).

What do you do over the winter? Top off the tank, add conditioner, etc.?

Nice to talk to you last nite.

Leo,

Please forgive an infomercial, but you'd no doubt benefit greatly from our Moyer Marine Service and Overhaul Manual (http://www.moyermarine.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=MANL_01_98). At the end of each of the first six chapters which describe the major systems of the engine, you'll find a few preventative maintenance suggestions for each system. There are also chapters on winterizing and spring start-up. It's a bit difficult to pass all those things on in a Forum response.
