Don,

I've recently installed a Racor fuel/water separator to eliminate what was definitely a problem - water in the fuel. The f/w sep. is intalled between the gas tank and the electric fuel pump. I also have an on/off valve installed at the gas tank which is mounted higher than the fuel pump.

The engine sometimes runs fine i.e., plenty of power and good reponse. The sounds are what you'd expect and then it conks out. It just dies. It dies with no adjustment made to gas or choke. It dies when cold and it dies when hot. Fuel starvation is the only thing I can think of. So now I've bought a new carburetor. I'm hoping that somehow that will fix the problem. Tomorrow I'll install it and I'll also install the rubber primer bulb. I'll do anything - well almost - to get this sucker working.

My question is: How do I adjust the only adjusting needle valve I can see? I assume that the new carb is adjusted for best fit when it left the factory but I still would like to know what the best fit is e.g., from a gentle close, one and 1/4 left turn to open. Left turn to richen and right turn to lean. These are just wild guesses since I have no idea but I'd like to know what the correct answer is. Do I have to buy yet another needle valve as pictured on your site and install it? Are istallation instructions provided if I need to buy it?

Thanks for your help.

Bill,

The only adjustment on your new carburetor is the small needle valve on top of the carburetor which adjusts the idle fuel mixture. A good initial setting is to turn the valve all the way in against the seat, and then back it out approximately 1 to 1-1/4 turns. Since this valve adjusts the air, turning the valve in will reduce the air and make the mixture richer. Turning the valve out increases the air supply, which makes the mixture leaner.

Best regards,

if my engine stalls below about 800 rpm- should the idle jet be adjusted? if so how?
thanks
