View Full Version : Odd PTO shaft diameter

Hello,
I recently received a "one inch pulley for PTO shaft" without first mesuring my shaft- assuming that the diameter was standard.
Well, to my chagrin, my PTO shaft is not standard and measures 2 centimeters (.787 inches) in diameter.
Can I use this pulley with a bushing to increase the shaft diameter- or should I start looking for a pulley with a 2cm hole?

Kelly,
Sorry to hear of your dilemma. It appears that you may have an original Universal PTO shaft from the 1960s, which would have used a standard accessory drive pulley. You can see them pictured here (standard) (http://www.moyermarine.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=OVAD_06_384) in our catalog and here (if you prefer a 1/2" belt) (http://www.moyermarine.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=OVAD_06_385).
These pulleys were held on the PTO shaft with a woodruff key and a small 5/16" bolt. You could actually try your accessory drive pulley on the shaft to make sure.

Hello Don,
My pulley was held on with a small, hex-head retaining bolt- there is no woodruff key. The pulley itself is marked with, "Browning AK-32".
Does the catalogue accessory drive pulley fit a shaft diameter of .787 inches? This measurement is not indicated in the description (I'm loath to remove mine and dig into my fresh paint job). If you have the diameter at hand, that would be great.
Thanks,
Kelly

Kelly,
The accessory drive pulley is dimensioned for a slight press fit on a 3/4"
(.750") shaft and it uses an 1/8" straight keyway (sorry, I misspoke when I called a Woodruff key). If your shaft diameter is in fact .787", I can't be certain what model of PTO shaft you have, but unless you have a way to machine it down to 3/4", an accessory drive pulley would not fit. I wonder if it is a metric size. The Universal PTO shaft would have a flange that secures under the (6) flywheel retaining nuts.
