View Full Version : Pumping uphill

I am replacing a fuel tank that sat higher than the engine with a tank that sits about four feet below the engine (bottom of tank). Will I have any trouble with the mechanical fuel pulling the fuel up? If I were (someday) to replace the mechanical pump with an electrical pump would the 2-3 psi model be sufficient or would the 3-4 psi model be better suited?

Thanks,

Britton

Britton,

The mechanical pump should be able to pump from 4 feet, but if converting to an electric pump I would definitely select the 4 psi model.

As a separate but related issue, you're setting yourself up for potential vacuum leaks with your tank that low, so be especially careful that all your couplings are tight, as well as the top of your primary fuel filter.
