View Full Version : Oil pressure sender

I have purchased a C&C 27' with an atomic 4 and have never had the oil pressure gauge work. I am just wondering if it's the gauge or if its the oil pressure sensor/sender attached. The gauge looks like it has been stuck at a reading of 50 psi, even when the engine is off which leads me to believe that its the gauge but would really like to check the sender. Can this be done with a multimeter? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Lance,
Not only do oil pressure senders vary between manufacturers in terms of
resistance versus pressure, there are two different design concepts. In one
case, resistance raises with increasing pressure and in the other case
resistance decreases with increasing pressure.
Quite some years ago one of our customers (out of an obvious sense of
frustration) constructed this chart of resistance readings at various oil
pressures on two different oil pressure senders that he happened to have on
hand in case it would ever assist someone in the future. I'm attaching that
chart for you to play with.
