Temp gauge never goes over 120 F----wired a remote "new" gauge----same. I have not checked the plugs for evidence of cool running. The laying on of hands indicates cool temps near the thermostat housing---warmer else where---maybe even hotter. I think I can rule out the gauge as noted above. The sender is not as suspect as it used to be!!! Whether or not there is even a thermostat in the engine (I suspect not). Both the sender and the housing studs have been "soaking" in penetrant for a couple of days. Do I want to break one of the studs or break the sender---which will cause me the less grief. Marvel Mystery aint gonna fix this one. Your advice pls Don. (I love my A-4----but that Yanmar 2YM15 will drop right in there in my C/C 27). Regards, Dave in sunny Ft Myers

Dave,

I don't see how you can begin to troubleshoot a temperature issue (especially an "overcooling" condition) without having the ability to check the thermostat. My first choice therefore would be to remove and check the thermostat. My guess is that you'll find it to be stuck partially open. By way of encouragement, head nuts are seldom so difficult to remove as to break a stud, particularly after soaking them as you have done.

Good luck,

Don
