Hooray, I just did it myself!

I had classic symptoms of a loose reverse band. Low reverse power, not engaging until the end of the lever motion.

Watched Don's video clip. Then read the A-4 manual which describes the process in great (good) detail.

I simply removed the tranny top cover, tightened the 3/4" reverse band screw by 2 turns, put things back together, and viola'!, it worked perfectly!

Happy New Year all!

There's something just great about that feeling. Cool.

Since spending more time getting intimate with my A4 I got thinking about something else that has always perplexed me. Even before I lost cylinder #4 I could never get more than 1700 RPMs, if I increased the throttle it would eventually slip out of gear. Also I always describe neutral as 'just a theory' because I can seldom find a spot where the prop isn't turning one way or the other.

So more reading leads me to think the reversing band is too tight which should give me better neutral (plenty of throw left on the shifter) and maybe it will improve my forward performance. (?)
