Another question for the list...
I have two thermostats that I soaked in vinegar for two days which cleaned up nicely. Both appear to operator properly. Which thermostat is the better one or are they both equal?

The one on the left looks like the one I have, which I think is OEM Universal on late model engines.
I would recommend to check out the Moyer store (cooling products section), which should give you an idea of what you have. The newer thermostats are longer, which require a spacer (& minor housing work) for them to operate properly.

I also have one which looks like the t'stat on the left.
I clean and test it each season as you are doing and all works well for me so I would stick with that. It also looks more robust than the one on the right.

The brass thermostat to the left of your upper photo is a Holly thermostat which unfortunately has not been available for almost 15 years. The stainless thermostat on the right is an OEM thermostat by Westerbeke. Of the two, the Holly is by far the more reliable.
