View Full Version : A-4 Engine Stand
I'm lucky to have acquired a spare A-4. Can someone recommend what to look for in an engine stand?

When I rebuilt my A4, I just took my old engine mounts and put them onto a couple of 4x6 pieces of wood. this allowed me to slide the engine around without it sitting on the oilpan.

Hello sva3,
We might be in the best position to respond to your question about engine stands. We rebuild many engines each year in MMI, and to this point none of us have ever seen the need to work on anything but a good robust work bench.

The main reason that I used my old engine mounts was to give the engine some stability while transporting it to and from the boat. The engine tended to roll around in the bed of my truck (even thou it was tied down) when I brought it home. So when I put the oilpan back on the engine I just went ahead and used the old mounts on the 4x6's. This allowed me to tork things down without the engine moving at all. And in the transport back to the boat I was able to tie down the engine and it didn't move at all. (no rocky, no rolly, no slidey)
