Is there a rationale to occassionally opening up the A4 full throttle for a while? Yes? No? Why or why not? And for how long?
Cheers,

The engine seems to benefit most from sustained runs at a normal cruising power setting of approximately 2000 RPM, or 80% of maximum power available (Universal's historic recommendation).
I like to go to full power every now and then, mostly to check the condition of my prop (barnacle build-up, etc.). Other than that, I don't see much benefit to spending a lot of time at full power.

Makes sense! I wasn't aware 2000RPM was considered normal...is that assuming a certain prop?

Universal's recommendation of 2000 RPM as a normal cruising speed clearly assumed a prop of a size that would allow 2000 RPM. The part of their statement,---or 80% of maximum power available, apparently was in recognition of the fact that not everyone would have such an ideally sized prop.
