View Full Version : Can't tighten alternator belt!

I installed a high powered alternator, and I need to tighten the belt a little more than I am able to. I have to idle for a few minutes, else the belt absolutely shrieks.
There must be a way to hook a nut and bolt on this thing to force the belt tight, I can design one, but I figure there is probably already one out there.

Have searched a couple sites, and can't find anything. Does anyone know of one?

thanks

Joe,

I use a very large screwdriver to pry the alternator against the belt as I
tighten the bolt in the adjusting arm. I believe the handle of a 12"
adjustable wrench will work as well.

Indigo has one - an alternator belt tensioner - for $15. I got one, and it works like a charm.

Thanks, Larry, that's good to know.
