View Full Version : Reversing boat

This is about my Tartan 34c with an A4.
The boat hardly goes in reverse direction even when properly (I think) 'engaged' in reverse mode. (I observed the drive shaft and it rotates in reverse.)
I checked the 3 bladed prop...no barnacles!
I have tightened the 3/4" band screw by 4 flats because I thought the reverse mode was maybe slipping when revs go up. No change.
As it's hard to dock, pick up my mooring etc. I think I need help...please.
Thanks,
Klaus

You're holding pressure on the shift lever in reverse and it still doesn't go backwards? You do need to increase the throttle also of course. But it doesn't "shift" into reverse. You have to hold it there (at the point where it gets quite noisy).

I was wondering how much loosing is to much, on the 3/4" nut. I am having the same problem and decided I was going the wronf way on the nut since turning clocwise standinf at the stern loosens this nut.
