Hi Don and all,
I just completed a week long cruise in my A-4 powered Northstar 38 on Lake Ontario & the 1000 Islands. Pretty much trouble free other than the grease cup on the shaft stuffing box landing in the bilge.
Don, the shaft saver you recommended added about 1 mph to my comfortable cruising speed. Thanks! The added rpm probably caused the grease cup to vibrate off. No free lunch on shaft alignment, is there? Anyway - 25 gallons of gas, didn't use a drop of oil despite an all day motor in to 25 mph headwinds. A-4's are great in freshwater, mine's original @ 33yrs! 6.5 mph cruise, 7.7 mph WFO on gps.
I noticed the water pump seal was leaking water. A drop or so every 20-30 seconds. Does this reqiure immediate attention? Does it indicate bearing/bushing wear? I'd like to wait till season end. Thanks in advance.
Dave
