Hey guys. I've been digging around the threads looking for a really simple diagram to temporarily wire my motor on a pallet this Thursday so that I can start my motor and test it.
I plan on having the oil, water guages only for now. This will be the first time I fire the engine as it is new to me.
My question is: Is there a wiring diagram in all these threads that is really easy to understand and not a lot of BS in it to guide me thru this? If anyone knows the place to look I would really be thankful.

And this thread can be deleted after that if you want.

Thanks, Butch

also: I have a new 55 amp alternator and its an early model with prestolite starter, points distributor and coil, electric fuel pump.

also, does anyone know how I should supply the water? I am going to hook up a water hose with the re-circulating loop in place, how much pressure?

Very, very little pressure. Most municipal water systems have pressure values that will make the Atomic 4 look like "Pinhead" with water bursting out of every nook and cranny that the water pump could never equal.:(

Don't ask...:o

For cooling water, I would run a hose from house into a 5 gallon bucket, then run ta hose from your water pump into the same bucket. You dont want to push house preasure directly into your water pump.

Butch - Whenever I run an engine "on a pallet", I leave the alternator off. It just complicates things and the belt is in the way. You only need a battery with a small toggle switch to the coil + and a momentary switch for the starter solenoid. Use a direct read oil pressure gauge and temp gauge. Run battery cables direct as normal. As 67 indicated, go easy on that water pressure, or better yet let the pump suck it up from a 5 gallon bucket.

Butch,

I'm attaching a Word file of a cut and paste of the last page in our MMI Service and Overhaul Manual which should assist you to get your engine ready to start. It includes all the necessary electrical connections (there are really too few to make a good schematic).

Butch-
Here are two basic drawings to get you started...

Butch...if it was me, I'd recirculate the water from the motor into a 5 gallon bucket, and then simply put the fresh water supply hose in the bucket and replenish the constantly warming engine water with cool water. Can you run it in an area where you can allow the bucket to overflow? if not, even 5 gallons of recirculating water should give you a few minutes of good run time before it gets too hot.

I would AVOID hooking up the hose to the engine in any fashion.

After joining this forum I got to feeling guilty about using the garden hose for cooling "on the pallet". Use the 5 gallon bucket and run the garden hose into it just to keep pace with the pump's draw. Besides the use of the garden hose direct can mask cooling problems.

It runs so damn nice. UMMM Ummm Umm.
It took me a bit to figure out what I was doing wrong....the main thing was I had the distributor 180'd out. As soon as I caught that she fired the very first try instantly......no smoke.....no leaks.....just a very slight miss. I need to tweak the timing a bit.
Right now I got two more head re-torques to do. I got video and will post that as soon as I can.

Thanks Don and all you guys. Im stoked !!!! :)

It seems that I got one crazy ass thermostat housing. I dont like it but it is what it is.
I had to insert a "tee" fitting in the re-circulating line to house the thermostat sending unit. Come to find out the sending unit has to have a ground to the engine. In my case that really sucks. I will have to work that issue out.
