Because I was having water exhaust problems, I flushed the engine this weekend with oxalic acid. However, I screwed up the first time because I removed the impeller along with the shaft and then did the flush. Needless to say, the mixture came shooting out of the water pump area. I then took the impeller off the shaft, replaced the shaft, and ran the flush. Afterwards, I flushed with more fresh water.
Upon starting the engine, a lot of white smoke came out of the exhaust but after 5-10 minutes, it calmed down and eventually dissipated. Everything appeared normal, with normal water temps and oil pressure.
When I went sailing today, however, the engine seemed to lack its usual power. Water exhaust was fine, and there was no smoke coming out of the exhaust. However, oil pressure was down to 30 pounds. When I checked the oil, there was a white, foamy substance on the dipstick as well as under the oil vent cap. I added a quart of oil and restarted the engine only to get even more white stuff in the vent cap area.
Any direction I should turn to first? Thanks much.
