What's my Atomic 4 worth...?

I have a 1979 Catilina 27' with a Atomic 4 gas engine. I would like to sell it. I'm going to re-power. I am selling the engine, Transmission, Controls, Gauges, blower and gas tank. It has new plugs and plug wires, solid state ignition, new starter selonid and runs great. Just wondering; what's it worth...? Thanks.....AJ Smith. :)

I'm in Stuart Florida....It runs fine....It looks like a 31 year old engine....it was hauled out 7 years ago and painted.....I want to go electric.....I don't use the engine that much.....I'm a sailor, not a motorhead. I just need an engine to get me out of the marina......AJ.

Sir: If you can provide: Cylinder compression., Cylinder pressure leakage % after engine temperature has reached 160o, I can make you a tentative offer subject to my own examination. I also must factor in my efforts at removal and transportation. Or you can do a search on Google. Anywhere from $400 to $1,700. Not much demand for A4's. Most want diesel & are changing over

Are you replacing the A4 with an electric trolling motor? Or is this an inboard electric of some kind?

Going out into the Atlantic with only an electric motor for auxiliary propulsion on a 27' boat doesn't sound like the best plan to me. Are you sure you've thought this through?

Well, to give you an idea. I bought the same as you describe, less the fuel tank, for $500. It was from a boat just from the great lakes and used one summer in salt water.

The guy put a volvo diesel into the boat. He had wanted over $1500 for it initially and people were trying to talk him down etc. I knew that engine was worth that much and had told him so. Just over 1000hrs on it and it looks better than mine.

A few weeks later I just happened to drive into the yacht club parking lot and he was driving out. He stopped me and asked if I wanted to buy the engine for a spare. When I asked how much he said $500...I said sold.

I haven't needed a thing off that engine yet. However, the day may come. If I ever decide to sell my boat, I will sell that spare engine cheap to someone in need... for Karma points...just the way it came to me.
