View Full Version : Spark Plugs to hot to touch

I have just installed the Moyer electronic ignition system. The engine starts fine, but after about 5-10 minutes the #1 & 2 plug wires at the plug are very hot. The number 3 & 4 are just warm. What would be the cause of this. I do not know or remember if these plugs were hot before I changed the ignition.

Thanks for your help.

Zack,

It sounds as though there may be somewhat more resistance in your first two spark plug leads, or even in the plugs themselves. As long as the engine runs well, and the leads don't show signs of deterioation, I would just keep an eye on them for now.

The only connection to the Ignitor system is that it probably is creating a somewhat higher secondary voltage than your conventional system, which would exerbate the tendency of the first two leads to heat up now, wheras you may not have noticed it previously.

We have no history of any reported plug lead failures after installing an Ignitor.

Best regards,

Don Moyer

One more questions on Ignition. Just checked the plugs and found the following
#1-Very sooty and very black
#2-Somewhat sooty and somewhat black
#3-Not sooty and a little black
#4-Not sooty and even less black

Is that a question of the idle mixture screw because I have been idling the engine a lot in the slip while working on it; or do I need to consider replace the fixed main jet with an adjustable one.

Thanks,

Zack
