bajazu,

The terms are used interchangeably and there may be some slight variations in design. The critical function is allowing air into the system at a high point under negative pressure thereby breaking any possible siphon.

Nearly all have a one-way air valve at the top. This valve must be checked regularly for function. If it becomes clogged you have no protection.

It's also not unusual for these valves to spit or burp a little under normal engine operation. My antisiphon has a small hose from the valve to the sink drain to contain the burps.

Neil, the original anti-siphon on my C-30 had a hose to the sink drain as well...when I replaced it (after the valve corroded in my hand upon inspection) with a new marlon unit, I skipped the drain hose...maybe I should be keeping an eye on it to make sure it isn't burping salt water!!
