Greetings ,
I am new to the A4 world. I have an Islander 29 sailboat. New to me coming from a Outboard powered Pearson Ariel.

After a engine shutdown ( another story but I may have the answer from reading here) I was inspecting things in the engine compartment and noticed a water hose with somethng like a acid bubble forming on one of the cooling hoses.

My question , which maybe kind of simple but , is it safe to just pull off hoses and replace? My concern is that with these hoses below the water line I will have flooding, if I do not pull and plug right away.

Or ...

is that only a concern if the motor is running will there be water flowing out in mass from the hose...?

thx

Zen,

Most all sailboats have engines mounted so that the theoretical water line is just above the engine cylinder head (by an inch or two). This means that if you remove any hose with the raw water through-hull open, the sea will rush in. The answer is of course to keep the through-hull closed while working on the cooling system.
