Hi,
We had some problems with my pals atomic4 and we fixed several problems but when we hit the starter it turns over but it doesnt catch.

I know we are getting decent compression,
We put in new spark plugs and they are firing for sure, I watched AND got a nice shock
At the bottom of the carb i checked the plug and there is fuel in there.

However when I remove the spark plug after cranking it for a while they are bone dry, I am expecting them to have fuel residue.

Any suggestions? Remove the carb next? They only problem is the carb is in a bitch spot to reach (spacious boat engine room) so I want to be sure. And if so, what to check in the carb.

thanks
Rick

By the way, I have your manual and I know it says to check the flame arrestor. Sorry for being a knuclehead but I dont know where it is and I dont think its labeled in any of the diagrams in the manual.

Thanks

You can see a picture of a flame arrestor housing (complete) in our online catalog here (http://www.moyermarine.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=FCAR_12_176.3). It mounts directly onto the inlet of the intake throat of the carburetor.

Rick,

Because of the updraft design of the carburetor, it's unusual to see fuel drawn up and onto the spark plugs. The place you should see fuel if the carburetor and fuel supply are both normal is in a small puddle in the bottom of the intake throat of the carburetor. Fuel should puddle there after only 15 to 20 seconds of cranking as long as the choke valve is completely closed. If the intake throat remains bone dry after this amount of cranking and there is fuel in the float chamber of the carburetor, the problem is most likely a restriction within the main jet. Sorry, but the carburetor usually has to be removed for this work, unless you have exceptionally good access to the carburetor, which you don't seem to have.
