Don, I am sorry to revisit this subject, I am sure it is one of the most common. I just reassembled and reinstalled my motor. It took 6 months from the beginning of the project to the reinstallation. I had some wires I has some doubts on, mainly the main ground, the ground coming from the regulator on the compartment and another ground that mated to the regulator groeund wire. I attached these cables to the upper starter bolt. Nothing has smoked so I guess its ok. I learned a lot about the ditributer and its components by reading you companion manual to the overhaul book, it was really well written and I should know it by heart now. My current problem is this: the engine cranks, I have compression, spark and fuel (wet plugs) but the engine just turns w/no backfire or attempt to start. I have changed points, rotor, condensor, and cap. still not even a fart. I have attached a temp wire from the starter positive to the coil, and from the battery pos to the coil. I get a spark and fuel, the only thing I have left is that the timing is off. I can find TDC and I used the 12v light trick described in your manual, neat trick by the way, to find the points opening position that is decribed. So some people say that at TDC the points should be closing for the spark to drive the piston down, but it also makes sense to explode the mixture before TDC. I am sure that my light is going off at TDC, shouldnt this work? Even if it was off a bit I think the motor should start even if it shudders and dies.

thanks, this is killing me.

Gilbert,

I'll try to find your phone number from our records and give you a call later this morning (January 5).

thanks for the reply, my day number is 361-2250846. I was thinking the next step is to setup an external fuel tank. I am pretty sure the timing is pretty close.
