i am amidst rebuilding the carb. it was dirty inside with a good deal of orangish gunk lurking outside the fixed main jet. that was removed and cleaned. i did not see a replacement in the rebuild kit. there is a new jet that might be the right size thread but it not the same length. i am leary of using it as a replacement because it isn't exactly the same. is it the replacement? also, the main nozzle was clean the carb cleaner spayed in there came right back out the well vent jet and almost hit me in the eye. is it ok not to replace the main dischage nozzle? should i do anything with the idle needle valve?

The specifications of each jet and nozzle are designed to work well with each other, so you should replace each of the jets and nozzles that came in the kit, or don't replace any of them. The main jet in the kit appears different because it does not have the extended tail which was common on earlier model main jets.
The idle jet is one exception to this advice. Idle jets are sometimes difficult or impossible to remove from an old carburetor, so you are better off to abandon efforts to remove one that is resisting removal before destroying a jet. Earlier idle jets also had the extended tail, so it's best to replace it if you can, but it is not as critical as the other jets and nozzles.

thank you. i will replace all but not force the issue with the idle jet. i'll need to look for a socket for the main nozzle.
