Everybody ok?

Several of our members live and/or berth their vessels in the Kent Island area of the mid-Chesapeake. A vicious tornado hit the area a few days ago.

A check-in would be appreciated.

Bill

All fine here and I think we have power again.
Missed us (home) by about 1.5 miles and about 0.25 for the boat. We were trapped in our neighborhood by the wires, so we walked to the beach and took the Whaler around to Castle Harbor Marina to get lunch and swim. Swimming included leaf and boat removal from the pool. The boat jumped the fence to get in there

Thanks for the update Joe! It even made national news on NBC last night when Lester Holt was talking about all the crazy weather all over the country.
I hear most of the actual structural damage was a townhouse community being built, but I did hear about a couple occupied homes getting removed from their foundations.

My house is one block south of the path of the tornado where it came ashore as a waterspout. The rotation happened very fast. We got 2 minutes of warning and by that time the twister had already passed by. I can't remember a storm with as much lightning as that one had.

We've all seen post-tornado pictures so I'll not bother posting any of those, but I have plenty. One of the most interesting pictures are the ones of the high tension lines that were damaged that Joe posted already. I finally made it down to check on my boat yesterday (no damage) and watched in awe as the linemen had already repaired most of the damage to those vital power lines.

We didn't have any damage and other than limbs and leaves had little clean-up to do. One block north is a different story. One of the more odd stories was a house that was lifted off the foundation and turned 45 degrees and set back down with very little damage to the house a la the Wizard of Oz.

We got power back yesterday but there are still places in the 'hood that do not have it restored.

Amazing work by first responders, utility crews, and state and local governments. It's also been heartwarming to watch neighbors helping each other too.

Heckuva storm. We were very lucky.

This was the last time I saw a waterspout in Maryland, back in the 1980s and now we two of the things in one week . I will sure take these warnings more seriously now - the phone and radio alarms went off, my wife said "Oh No a tornado warning" and I said something like "They always say that, go back to sleep".
The week before the tornado from my marina:
