Clutch Sub-Assembly Issues

In rebuilding my basket case engine, I am looking at the reversing gear. I actually have two of them, one assembled, but pretty badly corroded and a spare with a corroded case, but the reversing gear assembly looking ok. I removed the corroded unit from the good case and compared the two assemblies. In both cases, rust is falling out of the end with the pinion gears and I can't get anything in there to turn.

My question is, can I disassemble the clutch sub-assembly to get access to the pinion gears, without pressing out the tail shaft? I don't really want to do that, so have the whole thing soaking in a bucket of oil while await your answers.
